Pearls are the only jewels created by a living animal. They form when a foreign irritant, such as a grain of sand, enters a pearl oyster. To protect itself, the oyster coats the irritant in layers and layers of nacre, until it is encased entirely in luminous mother of pearl. An iridescent gemstone is formed.

The Siren series revisits the classic pearl through a minimalist lens.
